Nanban review

  

Its a movie made for aamir khan, not vijay. And trying to remake it into tamil with vijay was silly mr.shankar. I felt it would have been better with surya or vikram or just anybody who can act or maybe I should say live the rancho character. since I had watched 3 idiots like 33 times, I found myself comparing the two movies scene by scene and expression by expression. If the story conveyed 50% of the message, the emotions potrayed by sharman joshi, madavan and aamir did the rest. Which I thought was majorly lacking in nanban. Out of the three, jeeva was atleast comparable but vijay and srikanth, uuh-uuh sorry. Dont even get me started on illeana. she made kareena look better and that says it all!

I am a fan of chetan bhagat, I have read almost all of his books.Of course, like any of his fan would say, I still think 5 point someone was his best. But when aamir made it into 3 idiots, I was awestruck. I felt it was better than the book and infact very carefully crafted in a way such that he had avoided all the scenes which he thought was far fledged for the society to accept ie. sleeping with the prof's daughter -.- maybe it does happen in IIT, but indian parents dont know about it mr.bhagat, so hats off aamir on that!

I just realized, I started this post saying that I am going to review nanban, but went on to talk about 3 idiots. That says it all actually, 3 idiots touched your heart, nanban, not even the tip of your nose. sorry for being blunt.

Having said all this, the message the movie intends to convey is very important. So remaking the movie into tamil was absolutely essential. This way it can reach every nook and corner of tamilnadu. I am just saying, it could have been done better.

In short, good basmathi, bad briyani.
