Dhoni- Review

SPOILER ALERT!

Absolutely no regrets watching this movie inspite of the assignments piled up to the ceiling.
A story with a heavy theme.. a story which warrants attention.. A story worth watching.
Yes, addressing the mad rat race in education sector in India. 100% results and settle for nothing less. What I don't understand is, why DON'T we ever learn??

Think about it.. We want our kids to study.. study very hard be successful in their lives to have a guaranteed job so that they could lead a comfortable (by that we ONLY refer to considerably upper middle class lifestyle) life without having to tighten the budget belt. But, the richest (of cos, not the happiest) but most of the time the more successful ones were NEVER good at academics once upon a time. They were all once a failure. To name a few that I can remember of : Sachin Tendulkar, Albert Einstein, Walt Disney, Lincoln, Oprah, Charlie Chaplin, Bill Gates and this list is infact endless! In his early years, Thomas Edison's teachers told him he was "too stupid to learn anything" and look what he turned into later.

I know, there is a very simple justification, its a competitive world, everyone has to run the race. Heck it! This whole system is to be blamed. How can you measure what a child has learnt in paper based 2 hrs examination??? Lets not even go into what and how things are being taught. Mug it, sweep the score. But regardless how many such 3 idiots and Dhonis we see on cine screen, I don't believe things will change. Sad, but true.

Okay, sorry for the digression. Coming back to the movie, yes very good effort by Prakash Raj and he has debuted as director, so hats off!

Positives
  1. I could see the Radhamohan's tutelage in it. Having a strong central theme and characters with deep stories to support it further.
  2.  Loved the way the characters were portrayed. Particularly the loan shark and the prostitute (only subtly mentioned). Everyone has a dark side that they are not very proud of but that doesnt stop them from wanting to be a good person they want to be. Loved it. every bit.
  3. A slap on the grade-obsessed education system
  4. The Neeya naana bit
  5. The title of the movie: DHONI (Yes I know I am biased, but I <3 him so wth!)

I don't want to call it negatives but I can't think of anything else now. (sorry for my vocab)
  1. The WAW factor missing. In other words, the true Radhamohan touch. Sorry I am comparing again but can't help it.
  2. The contemporary real life wit was appreciable but I felt he could have done a little more on comedy considering how serious the story got later .
  3. A little dramatic and too good to be true ending. Common, no one can meet the CM and talk to him like that.. no way larrrr *in the most dramatic tone*
  4.  The miraculous London return doctor with magic hands. Please.. the one reason chennai is so popular today is for medical tourism and don't push ur luck in challenging the medical capital of India.
In short, well intended sincere film.
